FIRST CONTACT
I appreciate that making the first step toward beginning your counselling journey may be daunting, but please be assured that I am here to support you. Whether you prefer to call, email, or text at first is completely up to you. Once you have made contact I will get in touch as soon as possible to arrange an informal chat over the phone so you can learn more about me and decide whether you think we will be a good fit.
FIRST APPOINTMENT
I offer in-person appointments in Banff as well as online sessions. Online sessions are via “Google Meet” so you don’t need to download any special software. Joining the meeting is very straightforward, but if you have any difficulty I am just at the other end of the phone. During our first session I will go over my counselling agreement with you to ensure that you are happy with everything. Please do not hesitate to ask questions at any time as I believe it is very important that you feel comfortable and happy with working with me. We may also look at what your goals are, but please do not worry if you don’t have anything in mind as goals can change and develop over time.
SUBSEQUENT APPOINTMENTS
As we work together, we will regularly review our sessions to check how things are going. Reviews are a chance to explore what’s working, what’s not, and whether your goals or needs have changed. They also help keep the therapy focused, collaborative, and tailored to support your progress and wellbeing.
FINAL APPOINTMENTS
We call the final appointments “endings” and I strongly believe that these sessions are just as important as the rest of the work we will do together. Endings give space to reflect on your progress, say goodbye, and bring closure to the therapeutic relationship. A thoughtful ending helps you recognise your growth, feel a sense of completion, and prepare to move forward with confidence, using the insights and tools you’ve gained.
